Dear 4th Grade Families,

Thank you again for a wonderful day at our Color Run last Friday! It was great to see many of you cheering on our students on the field and on the dance floor. We are inching closer to the end of the school year but staying focused on the present!

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Don’t forget to check out our most recent episode of the 4th Grade Pod”class” linked below.

  • Tuesday, May 7: Art with Ms. Sofer
  • Wednesday, May 8: Library
  • Wednesday, May 8: Free Free Dress for Spring Photos
  • Friday, May 10: 12pm Dismissal
  • Wednesday, May 15: Field Trip!
  • Math: Fractions! This week, we continue to practice finding the part of a whole and practice this concept with pattern blocks.
  • Reading: We continue to read By The Great Horn Spoon, learn new vocabulary, and respond to questions with text evidence. This week, students will be taking a short vocabulary quiz on the words they learned from chapters 1-9.
  • Writing: Students are drafting their informational reports on various topics ranging from Mookie Betts to Mallard Ducks! As we begin revising, our focus skills this week include revising our leads and writing topic and conclusion sentences.
  • Grammar: We’re taking a week break from Grammar to make time for our Writing and other projects.
  • Word Work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.
  • Religion: Our spiritual focus this week is: We Love All That is Holy. We remind ourselves of the 2nd Commandment and how we should honor God’s name. We learn that people who seek to honor God show reverence for God by respecting the name of God and all His Creation.
  • Science: Energy – How is your body similar to a car?
  • Social Studies: Gold Rush – Our studies of the specific tools that were used during the Gold Rush continue this week.
  • Reading Homework: Letter to the Teacher
    • This week, we continue with the Letter to the Teacher. After reading 20/min day this week, students will write a letter detailing what they read. Please see your student’s homework folder for more details, as well as your email. One letter summarizing this information is to be completed by next Tuesday. — Have your student check their checklist to see if any improvements could be made.
  • Math Homework:
    • Math Worksheet – Study Link 7.2 (fraction of)

Let’s have a great week,

Ms. Schmaeling
