5th Grade Academics

RELIGION

The 5th graders presented posters of the Liturgy of the Eucharist at last week’s assembly – they were truly beautiful. We are laminating them and will have them up in the classroom for the Almost Spring Showcase in March. Make sure to plan on attending that day and take a peek at their work. This week we are working on the Communion Rites as well as self-reflection on our Lenten Promises as well as, participate in weekly Stations of the Cross led by our 8th graders.

MATH

We continue to review and practice US Traditional division with remainders and decimals and will have another IXL quiz on Thursday

SCIENCE

We are practicing referring to our notes as we used them to make test corrections today. We are working on a research/art project about a chosen scientist.

ELA

Reading: We continue reading “Sign of the Beaver” and learning about life in the 1700s. This week, we’ll focus on chapters 13-15, identifying figurative language, summarizing chapters, and including vocabulary, context clues, and illustrations. We will take our quiz for chapter 7-12 on Thursday.

Our focus in writing is being thorough with our summaries.

Word Work:  Test today for all groups on Friday. This week, there won’t be any new sorts for the students, as we had a short week last week.

Social Studies

Thirteen colonies continues to be our main focus. Assignments for states will go out today. I will send more information to families about our class project by the end of this week. Students will have to do the research at home using the site www.50states.com. Students have bookmarked this site on their tablets.
