The 7th grade enjoyed their field trip to the Long Beach Aquarium! We had a behind-the-scenes tour of the Blue Cavern exhibit, a tour of the aquarium and loved touching, jellies, sharks and stingrays. It was a beautiful, warm evening and the walk down to the dock was fun. We collected seawater and took it back to the lab to identify different types of plankton. We learned quite a bit while viewing a movie on mollusks and then we dissected a squid, identified whether it was male or female, located the hearts and the ink sac. We then were able to remove the pen, which acts as their flexible backbone. We had time for a snack and then we settled down in front of the Tropical Reef Tank for a “little sleep”. We were up bright and early (before 6:00- see, they can get up that early!) and enjoyed a quick breakfast before venturing out to see the seals and sea lions. We took a class picture before saying good-bye and thank you to our guides and to Mrs. Sabatino before boarding the bus for home and our nice, comfy beds!
