Hello, Second Grade Families!
Our Flat People have finally been mailed!!!!! I sent out an email to all the flat host families to let them know that Flat students will soon arrive.
This is our academic overview for this week:
Homework:
Reading Log & spelling city Unit 10. Please make sure your child completes the assignments on spelling city.
We will begin memorizing our saint reports.
English Language Arts:
We will be reviewing reading and phonics skills. We will continue practicing comprehension strategies such as story mapping, inferences and working on text to self.
We will wrap up Henry and Mudge this week. We are working on applying on all our comprehension skills such as comparing and contrasting with our reading.
We will be reading Stellaluna, Big Pumpkin and other fun read alouds this week.
Spelling/Phonics: We will continue reviewing words with digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh). We will be reviewing words ending with mp, nk, nd, ng, and nt.
Math
We will review fast facts, number grid, subtraction and addition number stories. We will learn about comparing ounces and pounds.
Everyday Math is a great resource for math support. You may download the home links for our lessons in class. We are working on 2.10-2.12 this week. Next week we will be taking our Unit 2 Math Test.
Religion
This week we will discuss the students saint reports. I will meet with each student to write what he or she will memorize. Please look in their homework folder tomorrow for a copy of their report to memorize.
Our saint’s parade will be on November 7th. I hope all the costumes are coming along. Please make sure to have a dress rehearsal at home with your child’s saint costume before Friday, November 7th. They must be able to walk and kneel with their costumes. They must wear their uniform underneath their saint costume. If you have any questions, please send me an email.
