We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Olivas Adobe last Wednesday. Everyone learned much while also having fun: the perfect field trip!
Progress Reports will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return them by Friday if possible. We have a free dress ($1) on Wednesday and a FREE free dress on Friday, which is a half day. Looking forward to Valentine’s Day, each student has a class list, which they can use to address their valentines to their classmates. They can also bring in their signed valentines without names on them. Those exchanging valentines should bring one for each child in the class; we will exchange valentines on Friday morning around 11:30.
This week we will be completing Reading logs, due next Monday. You may click here to access the form. Weekly_Reading_Log We will also be doing 3 ixL decimal math skills: U 13, 14 and 15.
We will continue our study of Unit 10 Vocabulary words, with a practice quiz on Thursday and test on Friday.
We have started Unit 17 in Spelling; bookwork needs to be done by Friday, and the test will be on Friday.
In Grammar we will be studying irregular verb forms.
In Writer’s Workshop we will learn how to elaborate as we work on essay writing.
In Math we are coming to the end of Unit 4, on decimals, so I am anticipating a test late next week.
Our main focus in Religion class this week will be the fourth commandment.
In Social Studies we will continue to work on mission notes. Students should also be working on their notes at home. The goal is to finish note-taking by next Tuesday, and we will then begin writing the report in class. I plan to have the final drafts ready to go home with your children on Friday, February 27th, so that they can be typed. In addition, we will review the vocabulary and concepts from chapter 4: Alta California after Mexican independence from Spain. There will be a test on this chapter on Thursday.
We have been reading about scavengers and decomposers in chapter 4 of Science.
In Reading groups we continue reading our literature selections, as well as articles from the Scholastic News magazine. Remember, this magazine can be accessed online as well!
