It’s the final week of 4th grade, and it is filled with many fun activities. Today students received their yearbooks, and enjoyed field day in the afternoon with their family groups. Tomorrow we have art with Ms. Spooner, and it will be free choice in computer lab for those who are caught up with their work. We will also meet with our kindergarten buddies for a final activity. On Wednesday we celebrate our 8th grade graduates with Mass and an Honors Assembly. Thursday, Spirit Day, is a half day and a free dress day; we will clean out our desks, have a kickball game with third graders, enjoy a free lunch and then go home at noon. This is the last day for EDC. On Friday we put on our uniforms one more time, go to Mass and then return to the classroom to receive our progress reports and then at about 10 a.m. SUMMER VACATION BEGINS!
Finishing with a little more learning:
Religion: We are learning about the Eight Beatitudes and how to apply them in our daily lives.
Math: We will finish the journal pages through page 207, including all Math Boxes pages. We will do an end of the year assessment as well.
Spelling: We are learning the words in Unit 35.
Grammar/Writing Workshop: If not done, we are finishing the final drafts of the opinion essays. We will also touch upon a couple more items of importance in grammar.
Reading: Reader’s Theater: We will be reading short plays in class this week, taking the parts of a variety of characters.
Social Studies: We continue reading about methods of transportation and communication in California after statehood: stagecoach, pony express, transcontinental railroad, telegraph, and we will end by looking at how immigrants built California.
Science: We continue learning about electricity.
I will send home a final packet of work on Tuesday.
It has been a wonderful year with the fourth graders, filled with many accomplishments and much to be proud of. Your support at home has truly made the difference.
