We have a short week, as our Easter break begins on Thursday at noon! May you have a blessed Easter and a relaxing rest from schoolwork and all that entails!
THE WEEK AHEAD:
Religion: We will continue discussing the seventh commandment this week, as well as focusing upon Holy Week. This morning Mrs. Fries talked about Holy Week as she did her weekly cursive lesson. Wednesday is the Living Stations of the Cross at 1:50 p.m.
Math: Our Unit 6 test will be tomorrow. Students are to catch up on any unfinished ixL Math skills from the third trimester by April 24th. Notices will be coming home in planners and via email.
Reading Workshop: We started a reading log last week; it is due on Wednesday. We will wrap up our unit on biographies this week. Students may select any genre of book to read over the Easter break; after Easter we will be reading historical fiction.
Writer’s Workshop: We have started writing the first chapter of our informational books. We have been doing research on the Internet, looking for details to add to our big topic (chapter one) and our more focused topic (chapter two).
Language Arts: Students should be practicing their poems for the Speech Contest. Poems must be recited in class this week. I will select five students as finalists, and they will compete against third and fifth graders on April 26th.
Reading Fluency: No reading fluency this week.
Spelling: We have been working on the words in Unit 28; the test will be on Wednesday.
Vocabulary: We will begin a new unit after Easter.
Grammar: We continue learning about adjective forms.
Social Studies: We will be learning about the Bear Flag Revolt.
Science: We continue learning about earthquakes and volcanoes.
Thanking you for your continuing support,
Mrs. Mary Dwyer
