Second Grade Families,
Happy New Year! I’m glad to be back from our Christmas vacation. The kids came ready to learn and get into our daily routines. Thank you for all the beautiful Christmas cards and gifts.
Homework
Fluency (Legos): I gave students their fluency before our vacation. If your child completed this assignment, he/she does not have fluency this week.

Take a Peek at Our Week
Reading: We will restart our unit: Reading Nonfiction
Our focus will be to ask, “How can I put this together to grow knowledge of the topic?” Students will also pay attention to details and put the parts of the story together in their mind.
Writing: New Genre: Information writing (Please have your child bring a book from home which contains their favorite character).
Spelling: Test will be on Friday
Math: Unit 4: In the next two weeks we will begin rounding to the nearest 10 along with ballpark estimation (rounding) with addition and also working on word problems. I may be sending extra math work home to help support this weeks math unit.
Example: 23+39= Ballpark Estimation would be 60 (20+40=60).
Religion: We will begin Unit 3. Students will be grateful for God’s loving mercy in giving us the gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Sacrament of Reconciliation will be on February 28th at 1:30.
Students are to wear:
Socks: Visible plain white, red, navy blue, or black socks must be worn at all times.
Tights: White, red, navy blue, or black tights are an option. No leggings allowed.
DO NOT forget to add your child’s name to school jackets and sweatshirts.

Also, Parent’s day is on January 26th. Don’t forget to mark your calendar. If you are not able to attend, please let me know.
Reminder about Parent Teacher Conferences. Please look at your reserved time for Jan.10-12th, if the time does not work for you contact Mrs. Hahn, ASAP.
