Hello Second Grade Families!
Mark your calendars for Wednesday night’s School Fair in the Hall. Our class has been working hard in the garden and we are eager to share the fruits of our labor. The doors will be open from 6:00-7:15. See you there!
In class this week…
Math: This week’s focus remains on addition and subtraction, both more generally in number stories and as isolated problems with and without regrouping. Later in the week we will begin the very early stages of multiplication by creating arrays as well as combining equal groups of various manipulatives.
For IXL Homework this week, please complete the following skills…
Y.1 Count Equal Groups
L.9 Addition and Subtraction: Ways to make a number
H.9 Subraction word problems: up to 2 digits
Reading: Last week we just took a peek. Now this week we officially kick off our next unit: Bigger Books Mean Amping Up Reading Power. We will discuss rehearsing reading voices as well as scooping up words into phrases (fluency) before we get to noticing dialogue tags.
Writing: The students will take a little break from our science writing this week in order to put together our Palmisano Writing Contest essays. This year is all about what we want to be when we group up, and I am pleased to report that we many ambitious second graders among us!
Word Work: Your child’s sort for this week can be found on SpellingCity.com. Since this is a short week, our next test will be on Monday.
Science: This week is all about preparing for the School Fair. See you Wednesday night!
Religion: The class will finish Chapter 17 this week before momentarily changing gears for our Virtus lesson(s) on Friday. If you have not already signed and returned the permission slip, please let me know and I will send a blank one with your son or daughter as soon as possible.
Have a great week!
