Hello Second Grade Families,

This week marks the beginning of March as well as trimester three! We have much to look forward to though in this next stretch and I am eager to make the most of our time together.

Math: This week we will wrap up Unit 6 with a test on Friday. We will spend time reviewing in class, but if you’d like a copy of our test-prep packet for additional review at home please let me know and I can send one your way. Please keep in mind that not all test content is expected to be mastered. Part A (the first half) has been thoroughly covered, but Part B (the second half) is meant to inform future teaching as we move on to the next Unit.

For IXL Math Homework this week, please complete the following skills:

H.7 Subtraction Input/Output tables

G.13 Addition Input/Output tables

Y.2 Identify multiplication sentences for equal groups

Y.4 Relate addition and multiplication sentences for equal groups

Reading: We are turning the corner into our next bend in the Unit, shifting our focus from reading with fluency to understanding literary language. We will cover such topics as figurative language and inventive language.

For the entire month of March, our reading log will be different. Our March Madness Bingo reading logs go home today and I am pleased to report that the students are eager to fill those boxes in! They have all month to complete the Bingo sheet (as there are 16 boxes), so pace yourself. Instructions can be found on the reading log, but if you have any questions I’m happy to answer them.

Writing/Science: This week we turn a bend in our science writing, too! Rather than lab reports, we will begin to lay the ground work for writing information books. The second half of this week will largely be focused on coaching our writers to choose content-based topics.

Word Work: Your child’s spelling words can be found in his/her planner. Our next test is scheduled for Friday.

Religion: This week marks the beginning of Lent. The class will take a short break from our First Reconciliation preparation in order to recognize this special time of year.

Keep your eye on your e-mail account later this week for more information on next week’s First Reconciliation plans.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
