Dear Kindergarten Families,
Here we go the last week of March! In honor of Dr. Seuss we have spent more time in reading groups, listening to stories, working on rhymes, and noting story components to promote comprehension.
Read Across America is finishing up for March…. this does not mean we stop reading!! Continue with nightly reading and a bit extra. So many advantages to continuing with this healthy habit.
Free Dress on Wednesday – we are calling it “hobby day” and bring in the dollars! Dress in favorite T-shirt/dress, of a team sport, music, art, dance, games, any type of theme that your child enjoys. Please support our local charity, the St. Vincent de Paul Society with a couple extra dollars.
The life of Jesus is being taught through the liturgical year as well as during Lent. Your children are learning through Bible readings the parables and many miracles during Jesus’ time on earth. Lent provides us time to learn about helping others through love, prayer, and giving. This week Stations of the Cross will be Friday at 2:00. Please join us if your schedule permits.
Words their Way finds us working on beginning sounds, word families, and consonant blends. Look for your child’s sorts coming home on Tuesday. Take time to read the pictures, sort and say those sounds with your child.
Sight word lists or books are coming home for extra practice. Your child should know all 50 words on lists A and B by May. I have a challenge book if your child is ready for more sight words.
Math focus for this week is dividing a whole into halves and counting and exchanging money. We learn how to make a half a snack, or half a pizza and play games with coins.
If you have a few stickers – send them in on Wednesday. Thursday we begin a class collection using stickers. This collection will reinforce counting and data collection.
Our new science unit is on weather conditions and seasons. Social studies and writer’s workshop -how to care for our Earth.
Take a little time each night to practice the poem your child selected.
