Dear Kindergarten Families,

We talked about the meaning of Memorial Day last week. I hope your children enjoyed the holiday and took time to remember our military heroes and those who gave their lives for our country.

We have been learning about our American Symbols. Your children show great interest in the symbols of our country. They learned about our U S Flag, the Bald Eagle, Liberty Bell and Lady Liberty. Their beautiful drawings will be posted for you to enjoy.

The last few weeks we spent much time learning ways to bring joy and the how the Holy Spirit guides us. This week we will focus on the last chapter in our religion text, Life is Good. This chapter will focus on our good lives as well as living forever in heaven. Jesus shows us the path to eternal life. We will study the Ten Commandments through a children’s book.

Reading and phonics continue daily as we read passages together and respond to the reading. Sentence structure, opinion writing, vowels, beginning and ending sounds. Continue to practice sight words. Read nightly this is the last week to turn in book responses to Seesaw.

Math finds us working with plane and solid shapes. Your children create new shapes as they use geometric shapes: rhombus, trapezoids, triangle, square and hexagon. What they create is quite impressive! We are observing and counting coins and the one dollar bill. Counting money it a challenge. It would be helpful to count money at home. We are working these coins and their value: penny, nickel, dime and quarter.

Science lessons focus on our Earth, life science and water. We will be creating a model of Earth on these last few days of school as well as maps of our room, street, city state, country and world. We have had fun caring for plants and observing our backyard garden, and have noted several insects and a monarch caterpillar make a chrysalis.

Continue to check our website for upcoming events. Our last motor skills is Tuesday this week. Both groups will work together with Mrs Peterson.

If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email.

Blessings,

Mrs. Brown
