Third grade families,
We start off the week with a rainy day!
These upcoming cold days require sweaters/jackets! A friendly reminder to make sure your child’s name is written on the tags of the items. Often, when playing outside, the kids choose to take them off. We want to make sure any lost items return to their owners!

Sneak Peek of our Academic Week
math: Last week we spent a lot of time getting familiar with finding perimeter: the distance around a shape. This week is all about AREA! To find the area, we must determine the length and width of each shape. Then, multiply them together!
Our unit 4 math test on measurement is scheduled for this Thursday. We will be tested on measuring to the nearest whole, 1/2, and 1/4 inch + centimeter, finding the perimeter, finding the area, and using measurement conversions.
reading: In our whole class read-aloud, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, we will work on our re-tell, visualization, and prediction. In our small, differentiated reading groups, we continue being challenged at our reading levels using novels, close reading, and fluency practice.
writing: Now that we have chosen the topics of our information reports, this week we will work on learning even more about the topics we chose. To do so, we must research! We will work on using different non-fiction books to guide us on our research journey.
grammar: All about possessive nouns!
word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be! Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week!
religion: This week we focus on The Ten Commandments. Each day we will spend time breaking down a commandment, thinking about, and reflecting on each one. How can we make sure to apply these commandments to our everyday lives?
We will be attending 8:30a mass this Friday. Please come join us if your schedule allows!
social studies: This week we will work together in our California Native American Indian research groups.
Each week, small groups collaborate and work together to read about, research, and learn about a specific CA Native American Indian tribe. Each group works together to study their lifestyles, jewelry, clothing, food, and shelter.
A whole lot of learning!
Have a wonderful week,
Miss Poindexter
