Dear 4th Grade Families,

We have our Spirit Week for the Color Run this week. Each day, middle school students are leading us in an activity related to the chosen color. Monday was red, Tuesday was yellow, Wednesday is blue, Thursday is pink, and Friday is free dress for the Color Run. See below for more details.

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Don’t forget to check out our most recent episode of the 4th Grade Pod”class” linked below.

  • Monday, April 29: Art with Ms. Sofer
  • Tuesday, April 30: Library
  • Wednesday, May 1: Blue Day! ($1 Free Dress – theme is all blue!)
  • Thursday, May 2: Pink Day! (popsicles will be enjoyed in the afternoon)
  • Friday, May 3: Color Run – Free free dress for all
  • Math: We take a look into the world of fractions! As a class, we discuss how fractions make up a lot of our world outside of the classroom. We are reviewing fraction concepts and learning how to find fractional parts of the whole. For example: finding 2/3 of 27.
  • Reading: Our reading focus has shifted to be on By The Great Horn Spoon. We are using context clues to help us learn new words, as well as uncover new meanings for familiar words. As we read, we are keeping a journal for our vocabulary and comprehension questions. We are very excited to visualize the Gold Rush through our characters, Jack and Praiseworthy.
  • Writing: Our Classbook has been sent off to the publishing company! We hope to receive our finalized copies sometime toward the end of May. We can’t wait! — Students have locked down a topic for their informational reports and have started to research facts about subtopics within their topic. We are practicing paraphrasing!
  • Grammar: Commas Before Conjunctions
  • Word Work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.
  • Religion: This week, we focus on the different forms of prayer: Petition, Praise, Thanks, and Sorrow. Students will get the chance to write their own version of these prayer forms.
  • Science: Sound!
  • Social Studies: Gold Rush – This week, we add details to our Gold Rush lapbooks about the different routes to California. We are learning about how each route had its hardships and how money’s value has changed over the years!
  • Reading Homework: Letter to the Teacher
    • This week, we continue with the Letter to the Teacher. After reading 20/min day this week, students will write a letter detailing what they read. Please see your student’s homework folder for more details, as well as your email. One letter summarizing this information is to be completed by next Tuesday. — Have your student check their checklist to see if any improvements could be made.
  • Math Homework:
    • Math Worksheet – Study Link 7.1 (fraction review)

Let’s have a great week,

Ms. Schmaeling
