Good morning First Grade Families!
I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. The students worked very hard on their gifts for their mother’s these last few weeks. They worked with care and attention too! I know we will have a good time today talking about their surprises to you!
Last week we also had fun doing partner games in math to review adding and subtraction! Games are a great way to reinforce concepts we have learned throughout the year. In religion, we learned how parents are a gift from God to love and care for us as God loves us.
In science, we are reading a variety of non-fiction books to learn facts and concepts regarding the life of bees. As we read these non-fiction books, we find that authors pick and choose how they present and what information they write about. This helps us learn that our own writings will be different. We too, choose ways to show facts and information. They have enjoyed discussing which facts are more likely to be in books we read about bees; As well as the individual and unique facts we find.
This week, we will continue to learn about bees and their life cycle. In math, we are reviewing bigger numbers. We will use our number chart to find 10 more, 10 less, 1 more, and 1 less.
In reading, we will be focusing on compound words. To see base words within larger words helps to add to their reading vocabulary tremendously! In Religion, we will study parts of the Mass and how Mass brings us together.

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Driscoll
