Third grade families,
Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a restful Labor Day weekend. We are back in school and ready to roll!
It was wonderful seeing so many of you at our Back to School Night last week and I look forward to meeting with you all this week for our goal-setting conferences!
This week is a short one! We will spend this week continuing to reflect on ourselves as students and set some goals for the school year.
Important Dates
Tuesday, 9/3-9/6: 12p dismissal for conferences
Tuesday, 9/10: Weekly homework begins
Weekly Homework
No homework this week. We will begin next Tuesday! Please keep a look out for an email from me and their homework folders (going home next Tuesday). All directions to weekly homework can be found in those two spots.
Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week
math: This week we continue to review, specifically re-grouping up to 3-digits! Remember, our first unit of the school year is solely review to ensure we have all our foundational math skills set. We will spend this week playing fun games and completing partner math centers that will help us solidify important math concepts.
reading: We have begun our class read-aloud novel study, Third Grade Angels. This week, as we read through chapters 3 and 4 together, we will focus on our main character, Suds. We will work together to discuss him and the different emotions he’s experiencing as he begins third grade, just like us!
writing: In writing this week, we will take a pre-assessment on narrative writing. Narrative writing (writing a true, personal story) is our first genre of the school year. This week we will show what we know before we begin our unit next week!
religion: This week in religion, we will dive into our Bibles and think about our Bible Verse of the Week:
I can do all things through Christ because he gives me strength. -Philippians 4:13
We will spend time practicing how to look up verses in our Bibles as well as reflect on this beautiful verse and find ways we can relate to it.
art: We will be learning all about concentric art and how we can use shapes to share a common center. We will be completing some awesome concentric art pieces this week! Stay tuned… 🙂
Have a great week! See you soon!
