Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week
math: This week, we continue to review place value, finding differences using grids, adding 2 and 3-digit numbers, graphing, and working with money amounts. In our math groups, we will practice these skills in hands-on ways.
reading: We continue with our class read-aloud, Third Grade Angels. This week we will focus on the character traits of a secondary character in the story, Zippernose.
Our differentiated reading groups are underway! Each reading rotation covers a different skill; comprehension, fluency/accuracy, and guided reading. Specifically, we are all working on close reading, a method that allows us to look deeply into a text, analyze its details, and develop a deeper meaning of the story.
writing: Personal narrative writing! This week is all about becoming familiar with different ways to develop a solid story idea; brainstorm memories we had with a special person, brainstorm times we felt a strong emotion (nervous, sad, angry, scared, happy). These are all good ways to come up with a story idea, especially during times of writer’s block!
grammar: Verbs! Just as we did with nouns, we will review what verbs are. Then, we will practice identifying them and incorporated them in our everyday writing!
religion: This week we will be introduced to The Seven Sacraments of the Church. Throughout the next few weeks, we will analyze each sacrament, understand its importance, and how they connect us with God. We will also use our Bibles to seek verses that are associated with the different sacraments.
cursive: Last week we worked hard to formate the lowercase letter “l” by using our base, mid, and headlines to ensure they are nice and neat. This week we will practice a letter that is formed very similarly, the lowercase letter t!
word work: We have not yet began our official, differentiated word work groups. However, this week we will work to become familiar with different word work activities that we will complete throughout the school year.
social studies: This week is all about inquiry. An inquiry is a way to investigate a problem or ask for more information. Inquiries happen in 3 parts; asking questions, thinking about evidence, and completing a task.
Have a great week!
