NO Fluency this week!

math: We continue to practice different “tricks” to help us round numbers, work through word problems, and re-group. This week we will also work on adding more than 2 addends in word problems.

When tackling word problems, we… CUBE it out! This is an acronym to help us break apart long and tricky word problems.
(C) circle the numbers
(U) underline the question
(B) box the keywords
(E) eliminate/cross out extra information

reading: In our class read aloud, The Wild Robot, we will work on our comprehension and prediction skills. Our guided reading groups continue to go extremely well! During this time, students work diligently in small, differentiated groups to develop specific reading skills.

writing: This week we will turn our focus to some spooky writing! We will work on our creative and persuasive writing skills this week by selling a Haunted House!

grammar: All about pronouns!

religion: This week, we will give our focus to The Sacrament of Matrimony. What is this Sacrament? How does God help us through this sacrament? We will discuss its meaning, discover the symbols that represent it, and find Bible verses that align to it.

Along with The Sacraments, we will discuss the idea of bible story, “Jesus and the Rich Young Ruler” We will discuss how Jesus invites us to share our treasures and reach out to help others in need.

word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is a differentiated spelling program that allows our students to learn phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. It’s a hands-on approach to use word study to help us become better spellers. New spelling words will be written in your child’s planner every Monday.

science: This week, in our forces and motion unit, we will study if mass can affect motion.

Have an awesome week!

Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
