Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week
math: This week we continue with our unit on measurement! We have worked heavily on measuring to the nearest 1/2 and 1/4 inch/centimeters using rulers, yard sticks, and metesticks. This week, we focus on finding the perimeters of 2-D shapes. Then, we will work on finding the area of 2-D shapes. Next week, we will focus on distinguishing the differences between the two.
reading: In our class read-aloud, The Wild Robot, we continue to practice our comprehension skills. Each group works through a specific novel in our small, guided reading groups. During this small group time this week, we are working on the specific needs of each, differentiated group.
writing: We will work on the final drafts of our personal narrative pieces! We will use all of our edits to finish up our well-polished pieces. From there, we will work on typing our stories into word documents!
grammar: All about concrete and abstract nouns.
religion: As we step into the Advent season together, we will discuss and reflect on this week’s theme, HOPE. Hope is all about our anticipation of Christ’s arrival and recalling the hope He brings to the world.
We will be attending 8:30 am mass this Friday. Please join us if your schedule allows!
word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is a differentiated spelling program that allows our students to learn phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. It’s a hands-on approach to use word study to help us become better spellers. New spelling words will be written in your child’s planner every Monday.
science: How does air resistance affect moving objects? We will investigate the effects of air resistance through a fun science lab using paper airplanes!
Have an amazing week!
Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
