Hello Families!
Valentine’s Day is in the air! We are lucky to celebrate it this Friday. Friday is also a half day, so our celebrations will begin in the morning after Mass. Please have your child write their name on the Valentines. We line up our Valentine bags in numbered order, and they place one of their cards in each of the bags. If everyone’s names are written on them, it takes twice as long to “mail” each other their cards. This means we have less time to enjoy our activities for the day. Thank you so much for doing this for us!
Your student may bring a candy gift to all of their classmates. We have 12 students in our class. We will not be eating or opening our Valentine’s at school. I will pass out a treat that we can enjoy during our time together.
Last week, we learned about how coins can be exchanged for different coins by first finding the total and then exchanging them. For example, if I have 25 cents in pennies, I can exchange it for 1 quarter or two dimes and a nickel. This is challenging, and we will continue to work on this throughout the rest of the year.
In Science, we learned how groundhogs are members of the rodent family and watched the celebration of Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, which happened on February 2nd. We found that our prediction tally we made about Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow was true! This type of activity shows students how math can be used across curricula. In writing, we did some catch-up work on our “Winter” theme.
Kindness week begins this week! Our middle schoolers will do an activity in celebration of this special week by coming into class on Monday with a special “Be A Bucket Filler” activity. This will be a good review of the story, as we had a mini unit on this in September.
