Hello Families!
We had a great deal of learning and fun happening in first grade last week! It was a busy, shorter week, and we loved the warmer weather at recess! I am sorry about the word game cards getting mixed up. I will get those fixed! If you want to begin using them with your child earlier, the file is below. You do not have to have two different colors for the blends and endings. You can print it on white paper and mark the blends with 1’s on the backs and the endings with 2’s on the backs to separate the cards easily. If you decide to copy them at home, please email me so I do not send you another game. Thank you!
Last week, we took a look at how science and technology are helping museums learn more about caring for their art as well as learning more about their history. We were introduced to the Mona Lisa by Leonardo de Vinci. We found wonderful videos of how they used computers and cameras to be able to digitally show what the artwork looked like when it was first painted and how it aged over the years. Our unit includes analyzing the artwork and having them put themselves as the artist. I cannot wait to do more on the piece this week as well as continue to learn about de Vinci…as the inventor and scientist!
In writing, we practiced writing longer sentences and using more descriptive wording.
In math, we are writing our numbers from 1-120 without cues! They have surprised themselves at how much they can remember in their counting and writing! I have loved watching them turn their papers in with big smiles!
On Mondays, during our religion time, we will have our seminarian Jessie come and be our guest teaching a religion lesson. This year, we have been working hard at knowing and understanding the objects we see in church. Tomorrow, Jessie will give us a tour of the church and teach us about these objects. It will be a great way to see these objects up close and be able to ask questions about them as well!
This week, we will continue to study our spelling words and will have the test next week. Please keep the list when the homework folder goes back to school on Tuesday so you may continue to work on it with your child.
