Hello Families!
Thank you for having jackets and sweatshirts for your students on these cool and windy of days. Last week we went to our Stations of the Cross presentation put on by our 8th graders. First grade has learned so much going to these presentations during Lent! We have discussed the different ways Jesus was treated in our class discussions. They have also been telling me how their Lenten promises have been going for them. We stapled it into their planners a couple of weeks ago. They are very mindful of trying to what they wrote as their promise as we walk towards Easter. We are finishing up our beautiful Lent Promise craft and they are excited to see what the finished product will look like!
This week we are using our rulers to measure in inches. We learned that different rulers may move the “0” either to the very edge of the ruler or further over a bit. We need to be careful by measuring twice to see if we are correct. In math we have been also practicing our subtraction in using a game projected on the whiteboard. We played one game and they begged me to let them finish it. Now that’s a game I will “star” for future classes!
In science we are continuing with our spring focus and we have learned about birds and why they lay eggs in the spring. We are learning about how they grow and that their feathers may not be just for flying! First grade had fun with our Mystery Science discussion on Thursday. They are writing more on their “observe/think/wonder” data sheets in science! It is so much fun to see them gain stamina in their ability to print and write their thoughts for a longer period of time.
In reading we are going back to reading nonfiction passages about birds and then we will discuss what realistic fiction is vs. nonfiction.

Reminders: Tie=Dye Run on Friday, April 11th! It is our big fundraiser! Please volunteer if you can!
