This week we begin the Lenten season by receiving ashes at Mass on Wednesday.

Besides our focus on Lent, we continue our Family Life series with unit 2, “God’s Gift of Self.”  We will explore feelings, emotions, and what influences them.

Please make sure your child is working on his or her mission or gold rush project.  If the project is complete, it can be brought to school any time between now and March 6th.  March 7th is the date of our spring school fair.

This week for math we continue to work with fractions.  The Cricket in Times Square will be completed.  Magnetism is the focus for science.  Social Studies takes us to the California of the late 1800’s and the changes the state undergoes during that era. English is a review of the parts of speech that have been learned to date in fourth grade.  All students will have vocabulary words to review every night.  Please make sure your child is studying these words every night.  If they wait until right before the test, there is a good chance he or she will not do well.

This is a review week in spelling so there will not be a spelling test on Friday.

In early June, fourth grade will present its second annual “Wax Museum.”  Each student will pose as a person who has in some way contributed to California history. I will begin discussing this with the class this week.  Stay tuned for more information.  We did this last year on an evening in June and I  have to say it was spectacular!  I look forward to working with our room mothers and students to once again put together an amazing evening for students and parents, alike.

Blessings,

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
