Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter break! It will be nice to hear everyone’s stories and fun times during this past week.

Looking ahead: Speech Contest is on May 2  Criteria below:

Speech Contest  2016
Category 1 — Kindergarten and First Grade Students are to commit to memory a published poem selection with 4-12 lines.      A small prop or one costume item is allowed

Searching for a poem that is  (fun and easy to memorize) for your child will be the homework for this week. Your child does not have to compete -in the finals- although, this is required work for class and we will practice daily.

Our academic week:

Religion– The Living Cross – new life, joy, hope, sharing, forgiveness –  reflecting on the season of Easter. Focus in textbook  “Seeds Are Good”.

ELA- review of consonants /t/,/k/, and /n/. New vowel focus short /o/ and reviewing /a/ and /i/ as we blend and segments cvc words. Our reading strategies: monitor/clarify;  comprehension skills: fantasy/realism.  Writing sentences with high frequency word ‘said’. Compound words are the spelling word work. Persuasive writing skills will include learning how to make making signs, lists, letters or song to help people understand we want to make the world better.

Everyday Math– introducing solid shapes with review plane shapes, exploring the dime and making coin exchanges. Use some spare change at home to reinforce exchanging money – this can be challenging!

Science – our natural resources- main focus this week is water. We have an outreach program coming on Wednesday this week,  titled Rain Forest Ramble.

Social Studies – compare and contrast locations – near/far; behind/front; left/right – using mapping skills.

This should take us through the week….

– Friday is a full day of school-

any questions? please send me an email

Enjoy your week!
