This week begins our celebration of Catholic school education. The Middle School continues to study the Old Testament, New Testament and Catholic principles. This week’s classes will focus on appreciating our Sacred Heart community!
The 7th grade completed their study of Ancient Japanese culture by creating their own Zen garden. Each garden was designed to provide a calm and peaceful vision of the perfect meditation place. The gardens look amazing!
The 7th grade class read the gospel of MT 2:1-12 about the wise men visiting baby Jesus. After more research about the event we discussed the importance of Epiphany and what it means for us to share our gifts with each other. Last, they wrote a prayer for the new year.
The 7th grade class is studying Ancient Japan. We are learning about their court lifestyle and culture. Part of their time was spent writing poetry. This poetry focused on nature. The Haiku poem format was also used.
The 8th grade class had a fun interactive field trip to the Reagan Library. After a tour of the library, Air Force One, and the beautiful Christmas trees the students participated in the Discovery Center Experience. The sixth grade class finished studying the first civilizations such as Sumer, Assyria and Babylonia. All of these ancient places were in Mesopotamia or the Cradle of Civilization. To show our knowledge they worked in groups and created dioramas of the farms or ziggaruts. The projects came out looking great.

On Wednesday the middle school of Sacred Heart participated in a Living Rosary prayer service. Each student had a part holding a bead and saying a prayer. The rest of the school recited the prayers and listened to the mysteries of the Rosary. It was a peaceful, reverent service honoring our mother Mary.
The sixth grade class is studying the ancient Sumerian culture. Part of their culture included worshiping gods and fearing demons. They built complicated structures to worship their deities called ziggurats. In the computer lab today they designed ziggurats on a sketch website. They are great artists!
The 6th grade is studying Genesis in the Old Testament and the creation stories. To celebrate God’s beautiful work the students wrote a prayer thanking God for many different aspects of creation. We will begin moving on to main characters in the Old Testament as we read the bible and our religion book.
