It turns out you can at the Skirball Center! The class had an interactive archaeology dig of a replica dig site. Each group dug through the pit and retrieved artifacts. They then had to discuss their findings and decide what area of the town they were in such as the olive press area or the temple. We also had a very interesting docent led lecture in the museum on stratigraphy and trade routes.
