The 7th grade is studying the great civilizations of Mesoamerica. We have learned about how the Mayans farmed, where they lived and their religion. The class created colorful, exciting, folk art pictures to celebrate their continued culture.
As we begin April and the 5th week of Lent the 7th grade class reflected on their Lenten journey so far. They are also studying cathedrals in Europe and stained glass. The 7th grade class created many wonderful animals, people, and objects using tangrams. The 7 piece polygon shapes are fun to move around and design different things. It is said that tangram puzzles were invented in the 1700’s in China. The class worked hard and came up with clever designs.
The 7th grade class wrote beautiful Haikus about the nature of Japan. Each haiku was descriptive and serene. The students also wrote their name in Japanese on their poems.
The 7th grade is completing their study of Ancient Japan. We learned about their geography, social structure, resources, culture and Zen practices. Each student created their own Zen garden to help them practice the art of being calm and peaceful. Next we move on to China dynasties!
