Dear Parents, February 4, 2013
Can you believe it is February?! My it is going to be summer before we know it! We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week. A big “Thank you!” to all who showed support this week and especially to our 8th grade leaders for making this past week truly enjoyable and entertaining.
We are starting theme 6 in our reading series this week – Animal Adventures. Our reading strategy is summarizing and our comprehension skill is story structure. Knowing the setting, characters, problem, events in trying to solve the problem, and the ending will help us summarize the story. Our phonics focus is the long /o/ sound spelled with the CVCe pattern or CV (as is go) and the long /u/ sound spelled with the CVCe pattern. We will also work on the final clusters of ft, lk, and nt. Our spelling words are from unit 22 and all have the long /o/ sound. Our grammar focus is on naming words for people and animals.
Math this week, finds us estimating and comparing numbers! In religion, we will be finishing up last weeks discussion on how Jesus Shows God’s love and will hopefully begin our Virtus lessons. In social studies we will begin our unit on community life. In science we dive into our first lesson on habitats, beginning with the coast!
Reminders for the Week:
- Please remind your child to bring their library book to school on Tuesday.
- On Thursday we have a special theatre performance in Biedermann Hall.
- This Friday is a noon dismissal with Primary Centers!
- This week is all about… Sienna! Congratulations!
Have a wonderful week! If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
