Dear Parents, April 9, 2018
I hope all had a blessed Easter break!
Here’s what we are doing in first grade…
Language Arts: We are beginning Opinion Writing this week! We are also working on our sounds for y in phonics. When found at the end of short words, the “y” sounds like a long /i/. However, when found at the end of long words the “y” sound like a long /e/. Our new spelling words come from Unit 29 this week.
Math: We are continuing Unit 8. We will be learning about fractions and we will spend some time reviewing addition facts.
Science: We will begin our next chapter in science – Seasons!
Social Studies: We will begin a new chapter in social studies this week titled In and Around the Land!
Religion: We will read from our textbooks about Easter this week.
We will continue to celebrate Read Across America this week! If your student reads at least five more minutes than the assigned 20 minutes of reading per night, they will be given a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing held on April 13!
