A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS
Language Arts:
Reading: It’s amazing to see all the new information the students are learning while reading. Make sure to ask your child something new they learned about their topic. They are practicing to remember information and share it with someone.
We are also learning to identify antonyms (opposites) and synonyms (words that mean the same).
Phonics: We are working on phonograms: -ell, -ump,-ack, -ill, -uck, -ink. Don’t forget the Tricky y makes a long i and long e sound.
- Stop and study each page because tudying one page in a book can teach so much
- Guess what might come next. For example, I be the next page will tell about…
- Reader’s learn more by chatting about what’s happening (our favorite activity to do in class is turn and tell your partner)
- Remembering the information they learned is important. Practice telling someone what you have learned about your topic at home.
- Reading a diagram and labels.
Math: We have used base ten blocks to make numbers, learn about greater than, less than, and equal to. We did the addition timed test for 2’s. Please make flashcards at home to practice their math facts. We will take our subtraction test on Friday.
Writing: We are finishing up our Palmisano writing. What do you want to be when you grow up? 🙂 It is so much fun learning about who wants to be a doctor, scientist, vet, teacher, gymnist, etc. 🙂 We continue information writing next week.
Science: We will review East and West….Which direction does the sun rise and set? and continue reading about seasons.
Religion: We will begin Lent on Wednesday. We will speak about giving something up during our lent season and doing something kind. Students spoke about giving up candy, t.v., video games, asking to buy something, etc. We also spoke about adding prayer to our day outside of school. The kids came up with praying before dinner, on their drive to school or before going to bed. We will be going to Mass on Wednesday.
