Dear Parents, December 2, 2013
I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend!
Our reading strategy this week is “evaluate”. Our comprehension skill that can help us evaluate whether we enjoyed a book is “compare/contrast”. Comparing and contrasting or finding ways in which certain things are the same or different can help us in understanding a story and ultimately in deciding if we enjoyed the story. Our phonics focus this week is on words with ‘s’ clusters, silent letters (knit, write) and reviewing the short sound of /e/. Our spelling words for this week are from unit 15. We continue to work on the structure of a sentence and our grammar focus this week will be on telling sentences.
In math we will be continuing on with measuring. We will be exploring the 6-inch ruler this week and the tape measure. We will also be continuing with our ongoing practice and review of past lessons!
Science finds us focusing on shelter and the body structures animals use to survive.
Within religion we will discuss the importance of Advent it is Saint Nicholas Day on Friday. We will be making wooden shoes (out of paper) and leaving them out for Saint Nicholas. Hopefully, we will find a treat!
