HOMEWORK
Reading Log: Please read daily.
FLUENCY
Memorize Saint Report (copies go home on Tuesday)
SIGHT WORDS: Remember to study sight words daily (3-5 minutes a day). We began our sight word check last week and continue into this week.
No MATH IXL OR LANGUAGE IXL (You are okay with reviewing skills on your own for this week). We will resume to regular IXL next week.
Spelling: Study for spelling test on Friday.
Parent Homework: Help your child memorize their Saint Report. Some already know their report. We will be working on eye contact, speaking slowly and clearly, and keeping our hands folded or holding their object. If you have any questions, please send me an email.
A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS
Language Arts
Grammar/Writing: We are learning about nouns and how we find them in our sentences. What is a noun? Common Noun vs Proper Noun
Reading/Phonics: We have started new units in both reading and phonics. They both focus on the silent E and using our new skills to work on difficult words. Last week, we started our journey in Word Detectives with a TOP SECRET MISSION to become “Word Detectives.” It was delivered by an unknown detective last week and continues for a few weeks. We hope to earn our “Word Detective” badges by the end of the month in November.
Here are a few skills we are working on in Reading:
*Notice tough words as they read and stop to solve these words right away *Look closely at words to get clues, making sure they look across the WHOLE word to solve it. *Use everything they know to solve problems (Check picture, look at all parts of the word, try the sound two ways, double-check it).
Here are a few skills we are working on in Phonics:
*Look closely at tricky words all day long-during reading and writing. *Look closely to find a clue that can help…Silent E can be a clue
Math: We are learning about odd and even numbers. Students are learning to explain what makes an even and odd number in their own words. We continue counting money. We are exploring geometric shapes.
Religion: We will continue learning about Creation. We are learning a Poem on the seven days of creation.
Science: Reading our National Geographic Magazines. We are learning about how crayons are made, animals in parks, and a photographer studying polar bears. Last week, we finally planted our peas in the Kinder Garden. We will be checking on them today or Wednesday. The weather has not allowed us to go take a peek at our garden. This week we will also be making pumpkin observations. Lots to do in Science!
