Today we begin a food drive for the less fortunate families in our area. Students are bringing home a brown bag; please fill it with non-perishable food items and send it back to school by this Friday.
Our annual Teddy Bear Day is next Monday, December 5th. We hope that all children will be able to bring a teddy bear or other stuffed animal, which will surely brighten Christmas day for a less-fortunate child in the Los Angeles area.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
Religion: We will be discussing the season of Advent and our devotion to Mary (see chapter 9). Students are bringing home an Advent calendar, with reflections and suggestions for each day of Advent. It should stay in the homework folder, and the goal is to earn a “star” for each day of good effort towards meeting the goal of the day.
Math: We begin Unit 4, focusing on decimals. Students are to complete ixL Math skills T1, 2 and 3 by next Monday.
Reading Workshop: We continue reading mysteries, drawing comparisons between different mysteries from the same series. Students are to complete a reading log and have it signed for all reading done at home (20-30 minutes per day). Click here for the reading log, which will be due next Monday. reading-log
Reading Fluency: It is fluency #14 this week; it will be due next Monday.
Spelling: We are studying the spelling of compound words (Unit 13); test will be on Friday.
Writer’s Workshop: We have completed our realistic fiction stories and will share them with our classmates this week. Our next unit is on opinion writing!
Vocabulary: We begin our study of unit 8 words; we will have a test next week.
Science: We begin chapter 3, which focuses on Energy in Ecosystems. Our second RAYS program is tomorrow morning.
Social Studies: We continue our study of early Native Americans in CA.
