Today, we began leveled math groups for grades 3, 4, and 5. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is for students to work in the level that best fits their needs. This allows all students to be challenged, but not to the point of being overwhelmed. There might be a few more math level changes over the next several weeks as we adjust. We will be focused on relating multiplication and division over the next several weeks in group four math. At this point, all students in group 4 math should know their multiplication facts and have a pretty quick recall of them. If your child does not, then he or she must study these facts every day.
This week we begin unit 2 of language arts. This unit invites students to explore geography as it relates to seasons and weather. Students will discover how these settings are represented in and affect events in literature. We will read fictional pieces and informational texts related to weather.
For social studies we will be learning to use lines of latitude and longitude to locate places on Earth.
All students have the social studies and science vocabulary in their homework folders. They should be spending time every day reviewing these words as part of their homework assignment. Spelling words should also be studied every day.
During religion class we will be discussing the sacrament of reconciliation.
Progress reports will be sent home tomorrow.
Some students are in need of pencils and notebook paper. Please check to see if your child needs a new supply for class.
All students should be reading a mystery for our October book report. The mystery needs to be completed and in class on or before October 17th.
Have a good week!
