Dear Kindergarten Parents,
January brings a reminder of celebrating the Church Year as well as a new calendar year. We are learning to make the most and best of our time. Your children are making strides academically and socially. Each day I see kindergartners making good choices and working together as a team. Much of our discussion and writings are centered around the Year of Faith and living in harmony with others.
This month we will be working on a new theme in language arts, with considerable work on beginning sounds, vowels, and ending sounds. Picture reading will be replaced with instruction for segmenting and blending words as we continue the reading process. Keep up the sight word practice, it’s an important, too!
Math has us working with the number line, simple story problems, adding number combinations to twelve, and reading number words. Learning calendar concepts and telling time will be introduced next week.
The new season of winter has us looking at our Earth, landforms, animal needs and their changes during the cold weather. Today the webcam at the North American Bear Center was up and running. Not much movement from Lily or Jewel bear, we will start monitoring their behaviors weekly.
Care for the world, our needs and the needs of others will be the unit of study in social studies.
In addition to a hearing a story in the library, we will begin to check out books! Each Tuesday your child can select a book to read at home. I am suggesting that the books come back to school on Friday or Monday so I have them before our library day. The library book must be returned to check out another.
Lastly, this New Year is a good time to purchase another box of crayons for your child. I am asking for a set of 12 or 24 Crayola crayons for your child. The extra large crayons are a thing of the past. We are working on detail as we color!
Thank you for your help and support-we still have a few spots open for Primary Centers on Friday, January 18. Let me know if you can come and enjoy Primary Centers on the 100th day of school! Amazing isn’t it?
