Dear Kindergarten Parents,
Here we are in the month of May!
Our religion focus is on Mary. During the month of May we will be learning to pray the rosary. In our religion book, chapter 21, we have learned to appreciate light as a gift of God. Jesus being the light of the world. We learned the Easter candle is a symbol of the risen Jesus. We will discuss the candle we receive for Baptism and how it reminds us to share our light by being kind and loving to our family and others.
This Thursday we will go to Mass at 8:30. Some of our school friends are getting baptized.
The field trip to Ojai is this Friday. We will wear our school uniforms and be back in time for lunch. Friday is a full day of school.
It is time to practice counting money. In Kindergarten, we count pennies, nickles and dimes. The concept is difficult when mixing coins, please count change with your child.
In language arts we are continuing to learn our phonemes as we work with CVC words and mixing vowels, /a/, /i/, /o/ and /e/. Help your child as you read together, by holding each sound until they say the next one. For example, f i i i t. Also when reading, it helps to ‘track’ each word as you read through the story. Kinders know to touch each word as they read, but sometimes they get lazy. Please keep them on ‘track’ as they read to you and with you. And don’t forget the sight words. Go on a sight word ‘hunt’ as you read together.
Thank you for your pledges and for those who were able, your help at our annual Jogathon. It was nice to see many families involved (young siblings, too!) — it made a great time for everyone.
Mr. Doswell, our music teacher has a fun lesson planned for us on Wednesday. He is bringing the ‘music van’, with many instruments for us to see and maybe play!
Have a great week!
Mrs. Carol Brown
