Dear Kindergarten Families,
As we move into this month of May, your children will discover the meaning of God’s gifts. Our focus is how to show and thank God for his gift of love. The Family Life Series will have us review God’s gift of love in our families. Chapter 22 in our Religion text will focus on celebrating in families. We will learn through our Baptism, we are invited to celebrate in Mass with our families and friends.
We are very proud of Chloe and Sarah who placed 2nd and 3rd in the Poetry Contest. All my students worked very hard memorizing and reciting their poems. And it showed. Thank you parents for your support with this effort.
Tuesday Progress Reports will be sent home in your child’s gold envelope. Please sign and return by Monday, May 14.This week on Wednesday, we have a FUN free dress-with no charge! Come to school in your ‘fun’ clothes; although remember to follow our non-uniform dress code.
–Friday is a noon dismissal and we will have Primary Centers. I do need parents help. If you can help on Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 please come join us and earn 2 service hours.
Our reading strategy is questioning and summarizing as we make predictions while reading and listening to stories. Help your student match spoken words to print when reading. Blend each letter sound when reading CVC words. Always use your tracking finger on words as you read together. Look for sight words.
- Homework! Sight words did not go home on Friday…(sorry I wrote that in my homework post) we just did not have time to assess in class. This week new words will come home as your student reads by sight each word in 3 seconds or less.
I cannot stress enough to count coins at home. This will help reinforce identifying and knowing the value of pennies, nickels, and dimes. Most children get confused at the value of each coin. Please use only pennies, nickels, and dimes, using quarters is not the focus in Kindergarten. We count by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s daily, the concept of counting mixed coins is difficult. Our next chapter is adding and subtracting, I will continue to use coins to add and subtract as we work through this chapter.
Science lessons continue with seasons, water and our natural resources. Patriotic Symbols are a kindergarten standard. We will review our nation’s symbols and play a lotto game in our Social Studies lessons this week.
That should take us to Friday-
Please send me an email if you can help for Friday’s Primary Centers.
