Mr. Hinojosa is a man of many talents. People say someone is “good with their hands” and he is. On Mondays and Wednesdays he is the music teacher and the music minister for Sacred Heart Church on the weekend. This year he added another job. He is the Plant Manager for Sacred Heart Church and School since the previous plant manager retired.  During the summer Mr. H said that, “ I asked if I could help out by taking on the responsibilities that come with the position of Plant Manager”.

How can a musician be a person who can take care of the grounds of the church and school?  It might be unusual, but not for Mr. H. He said that he has been playing music since he was 4 years old. When he was growing up he helped his parents renovate their home. Now Mr. H gives music lessons, performs, fixes music instruments and does woodworking.  Because he did all this, he can take care of Sacred Heart and also play music for people, who go to church and school.

He has a lot to do as the Plant Manager. He said “ I’ve fixed broken locks, water heaters, installed sound equipment in the Church, plumbing repairs, graffiti removal, repairing broken pews, maintaining football fields and replaced some electronics that had gone out on the grounds.”  That was just since this summer. All the students at Sacred Heart School know what a good music teacher he has been since he has been doing that for many years.

Mr. H  has so much to do that he only gets 3 days off a month. He says “ I saw my dad working hard and this is my church and school too. I do the work for God instead of myself.”

When asked which job he liked the best he said “ I find intrinsic value in both jobs. When I teach music it is more mentally taxing and when I fix things it’s more physically taxing. When I see people grow in their knowledge and appreciation of music, it makes me happy and proud in the same way as fixing something that needs repair”.

Sacred Heart School and Church is lucky to have Mr. H who is a well-rounded person and who is willing to share his talents.
