Hello, Families!

Friday was a great day to showcase our arts and academics at SHS! Students & families walked around campus to see the 8th grade Saint Wax Museum, K-8 classroom tours, and watch our K-2 saints parade and present during the assembly.

Let’s take a look at our academic week.

Weekly Homework

Homework is due every Monday

Last week, we only had IXL, but the passage reading returns this week.

No IXL homework this week.

There will be a homework change starting on December 2nd.

Read daily for 20 minutes (Honor system)

Review multiplication and division facts a few times a week. There are games on IXL that students can use to review games or find some apps that help support this skill.

Our Academic Week

ELA

Word Work: Everyone has a new sort this week. This is a reminder that we do not administer spelling tests weekly but administer an assessment every 4-6 weeks to check for mastery.

Our reading for the next few weeks will be the following:

5th: We will finally complete Hatchet this week. We had a few events that caused a delay in our completion of this book. We will have a test next week on Tuesday to complete this novel. We will begin Out of My Mind next week.

4th: We will be completing our novel this week as well. We will have our test next week on Tuesday. We begin a new novel in December.

We will continue learning about Figurative Language. We are working on idioms, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, metaphor, onomatopoeia, and similes. We are learning to identify them as we read.

Math

Math fluency daily (add/sub/multiplication/division).

4th: We continue working on place value to the ten thousands, collecting, organizing and describing data, and addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers. We will also explore factor pairs of prime numbers and the conversion of measurements.

5th: We continue practicing multiplication of whole numbers and decimals. We will work on repeated-factor notations. We will focus on math vocabulary, such as numerical expressions, interpretation, product, quotient, and base ten numerals.

Religion

The next three weeks, the Gospel Readings prepare us for Jesus’ second coming. We will examine the church’s teaching about death and resurrection. Our lesson themes will be Jesus is Hope and Jesus calls us to serve His kingdom.

We will be making a thankful art project.
