Dear Families,
Thank you for taking the time to meet last week during parent-teacher conferences. In the last few weeks, we have been busy learning new routines, taking assessments, playing games to build our class community, and reviewing math and reading skills. I look forward to this week being a “normal” whole week.
Weekly Homework
Homework is due every Monday
Read the passage, The Eraser, Daily and complete daily activities
No IXL until the 1st week of October
Read daily 20 minutes (Honor system)
Review multiplication and division facts a few times a week.
Our Academic Week
ELA
Our read-aloud this month will be Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We dive into vocabulary, character traits, and comprehension questions. We will also begin reading groups.
We will begin our spelling in October. Assessments for placement of spelling patterns will be administered next week.
In our writing class, we will start the Writer’s Workshop. During this time, we will focus on writing personal narratives. In terms of grammar, we will spend the next few weeks reviewing previous standards, such as when to use commas and apostrophes, using the past tense correctly, and constructing proper sentences.
Math
We will work on math fluency daily (add/sub/multiplication/division).
4th: We will review the following this week: Points, Line Segments, Lines & Rays, quadrangles, angles, and polygons.
5th: We will review identifying places in whole numbers and decimals, finding factors of a number, write number models for rectangular arrays.
Religion
We will all learn the five forms of prayer. Blessing & Adoration, Petition, Intercession, Thanksgiving, and Praise
4th: Introduce The Nicene Creed & Magnificat prayer.
5th: Review The Nicene Creed & Magnificat prayer.
Social Studies
4th: We will preview the major themes of the year, including civics and government, geography, economics, history, and culture.
5th: Students will examine how historians think and ask questions.
Art
We have learned about Picasso and Frida Kahlo in the last two weeks. This week, we will be making our self-portrait by applying skills used to make a Picasso self-portrait and Frida Kahlo self-portrait. We have artists in the making!
