Dear 2nd Grade Parents,
Thank you to all the parents who helped make our Primary Centers successful. Friday will be a full day schedule, which will include an activity with our families in the afternoon.
A Look into our Week:
Homework: Reading Log and spelling city only!!! Please make sure to log into spelling city to complete the assignments to practice words. Your child needs to complete the assignments. It is a fun way to practice spelling words.
Spelling Test will be on Friday.
Students will not have IXL or Fluency this week due to their saint report. Their report is to be turned in before or on October 24th.
English Language Arts: We will continue discussing Henry and Mudge. We will compare and contrast characters in the story by using a Venn Diagram. We will review phonics by reading “Miss Pig’s Garden” and “Dave and Mike Sleep Outside”. We will review hard g and soft g.
Phonics: long o, u, and e. consonants
Vocabulary Skill: Antonyms; reviewing Homophones & Compound WordsSpelling Unit 9: Digraphs ch, th, sh, whVocabulary Skill: Compound Words (Backpack, rainbow, waterfall)
Grammar Skills: Question & Telling Sentence
Math: Fact Families, Fast Facts, Double Facts, Word Problems. We will be working on 2.9-2.12.
Religion: Our class has enjoyed sharing their special pictures or gifts they had received on the day of their baptism. We will be decorating a candle at school to symbolize our baptismal candle. The children will go home with their candles on Friday with a few details (name of the church they were baptized and date) to fill out before returning them on Monday for our Religion bulletin board.
We are so blessed to be able to role-play a baptism on Monday with Father Bill. Please ask your children what we did during Religion today. It should take us two days to complete the baptism.
Vocabulary: Confirmation, faith, original sin, sacrament, godparents, paschal candle, bishop and priest
Science: We completed our unit on the plant life cycle last Thursday with our test. We will begin our Animal Life Cycle.
Social Studies: Our country, citizens, …The students need an extra week to complete their letters to their host family. By Thursday, our letters should be ready to be mailed.
We will choose our new student of the week on Thursday. We finished getting to know Zachary last week.

We will not longer have our library time on Thursdays. Our library time will be on Wednesdays.

Wednesday: Picture Retake & Rosary (2:00, everyone is welcome)
October 29th: 1st and 2nd Grade Field Trip…Permission slips are due
If you choose to have your child retake their pictures, you must send in the pictures taken last month.
******Tattoos will be sold on October 31st for $1.00 to raise money for Adopt a Family. Each child will be allowed to purchase as many as they would like but will only be allowed to have two tattoos placed on their hands. The rest will be sent home. Please send in money beginning the week of October 27th*********
