Dear Second Grade Parents,
I hope you enjoyed this gorgeous weekend. Please remember to send extra water with your child this week because they will be drinking plenty of water due to the warm weather. First Communion is right after our spring break. If you have any questions, please let me know via email.
Here is a look at our week:
Homework: Reading log, IXL (H.2 & T.4) 20 minutes of math, Fluency
No new spelling words this week or next….We will be reviewing contraction words and compound words.
Religion: Preparing for First Communion…We will go over chapter 17-19. The emphasis is on the parts of the Mass. Father Bill will be giving us a “slow motion Mass” . We have toured the sacristy and will continue the mass on Wednesday.
Math: We continue to work on Unit 6. Last week, we worked on 6.1-6.4 and this week we will work on 6.5-6.8. The chapter focuses on subtraction with regrouping.
Language Arts:
Reading: We will conclude Jalapeno Bagels this week. The children will review story elements. During our story, we learned about a boy who has parents of different cultures. In the story, he explains how his mom makes Mexican sweet bread and his dad makes challah (egg bread) and bagels. We will conclude our reading on Friday with a treat. We will be tasting bagels, breads and Mexican sweet bread (pumpkin filled bread).
You MUST send me an email confirming that your child can participate in the tasting of breads on FRIDAY.
Our class read aloud will be, Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. I will start story on Wednesday.
Writing: We continue working on our persuasive. Our focus will be capitalization and punctuation.
Spelling/Phonics/Grammar: We will not have new spelling words this week or next. We will continue looking at word endings in –le. We will review nouns , verbs, and adjectives.
Science: We will begin our new unit this week: SOUND
Social Studies: Where does Food Come From?
