Dear Kindergarten Families,
I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving Day and enjoyed a nice long weekend!
A peek at our week:
The Saint Vincent de Paul food drive begins Monday through Friday this week. Your child will be bringing home a paper bag with a suggested list of non-perishable food items. Please be generous this holiday season.
Many have shopped for the Teddy Bear Day (Monday, December 5) – but we are still needing some new stuffed animals for this event — it will be coming soon … bring in any day this week.
Academics:
Religion – the season of Advent is upon us – we will prepare for the coming of Jesus!
ELA – reading and writing workshops will continue … your children are learning to use their reading powers as they find sight words, sound out words, look at picture clues and reread for more information. Our writing lessons are focused on learning to convey information by writing “How- to- Books”. Phonics continues with letter/sound recognition including long and short vowels and lots of rhyming. Print formation is coming along, we are starting to write simple sentences. Please review all sight words and help your child spell them as well.
Everyday Math- comparing and ordering numbers 0-30; investigate and use the pan balance as a tool of weighting objects; and a bit of work with probability. We will be using terms: weight, compare, lighter, heavier, level, equal, likely, unlikely, possible, impossible, certain and chance.
Science – animals in winter and we will have a special lab with 4th grade on Thursday!
Social Studies- comparing people today and long ago – traditions and cultures.
Blessing to your families,
Mrs. Carol Brown
