Dear Kindergarten Families,

A short week ahead and a special request. Please help support the Jamaica Medical Mission. Our school’s leadership team is requesting a free dress this Wednesday. Donations for this mission include $$$ and beanie baby or small stuffed animal for the children of Jamaica. Please read the post for more details. Your support truly helps those in need of medical attention.

We are learning about Abraham and all that follows as he moves his family to the promised land.  Our text book focus is on prayer. Scripture based on Psalm 46.11 “Be still and know that I am God.”

Language arts continues with the unvoiced letter sounds; this week letter Dd and the vowels, mainly /e/. Daily print practice, curved and circle letters. Spelling sight words starting with list 1. We will do a lot of practice and have our first test next week. Words to know: I, a, is, to, the. Reader’s and Writer’s workshop continue this week with reading old favorites – working hard to make the words and pictures match. Writing finds us writing with high frequency words to make our writing the best it can be. More detailed pictures and more letters or words is the goal this week.

We begin the next chapter in math! Working with shapes using vocabulary to describe how shapes look and feel. Counting and recognizing higher numbers on the number grid and reviewing patterns that extending three or four times.

Our garden is growing fast! Plant and animal needs in the fall continue in our life science unit.

Social studies finding Jamaica on the map. This pairs well with our religion focus as we learn how to help by praying for people in need.

Reminder: Friday is a day off for students – it is an in-service day for teachers.

Blessings,

Mrs. Brown
