Hello, Families!
November is here! I can’t believe how fast time has passed. Let’s take a look at our academic week.
Weekly Homework
Homework is due every Monday
Read the passage and complete daily activities. Passage was shortened this week due to the extra IXL in Language Arts.
IXL Homework for the week:
4th: Math A.5 and Language Arts A.1
5th: Math C.3 and Language Art H.1
Read daily for 20 minutes (Honor system)
Review multiplication and division facts a few times a week.
Our Academic Week
ELA
Word Work: Take a look at their planner. This is a reminder that we do not administer spelling tests weekly but administer an assessment every 4-6 weeks to check for mastery.
Our reading for the next few weeks will be the following:
5th: Our 5th graders are in the last chapter of the book Hatchet. We’ve had lots of discussions throughout each chapter. We still have so many questions, and we hope we get some answers in the next two weeks. Along with our reading, we have many short answers to discuss and write about as we read. Will Brian be saved?
4th: Our 4th graders are on chapter 24 of Island of the Blue Dolphins. We have a review week due to our Halloween academic activities.
We will continue learning about Figurative Language and Themes.
Math
Math fluency daily (add/sub/multiplication/division).
4th: This unit will also include: place value to the ten thousands, collecting, organizing and describing data, and addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers. We are also working on additive angles.
5th: In the next few weeks, we will practice multiplication of whole numbers and decimals. At the end of the unit, we will also practice the lattice method of multiplication. Along with writing numbers in word form and expanded form up to billions and using decimals.
Religion
We continue to read Venture. This week, we conclude our work
Social Studies
4th: During this week in our Social Studies Weekly, students will learn about the types of sources people use for historical investigation. Students will apply their knowledge to different activities throughout the week.
5th: Our 5th graders will conclude their California slides this week. We will also work on learning the regions of the United States. Next week, we will learn about a few states and their capitals.
This week in Social Studies Weekly, we will focus on researching answers to compelling and supporting questions. Students will interpret the information that is found and present their conclusions.
Art
We have learned about Dia de Los Muertos through our lesson in Religion and during our Intermediate Centers. We did a sugar skull art project and will work on an altar for our November 15th showcase.
Music
The recorders are still being played. I’ve heard some Christmas songs.
