We started our STAR testing; today we did the Math test and tomorrow we will be doing the Reading test.  All of this is done in the computer room, with students working at their own pace on problems generated by the computer.  All is going very well!

Work packets go home tomorrow; I will be sending an email, which lists all of the assessed work that should be in the packet.

Our week looks a little different, partly because of testing and partly because of the long weekend coming up (no school on Friday or next Monday!!)  Here’s what we are working on this week:

Religion: We continue with chapter three.  I am sending home the pages from Chapters one and two for your reference.

Math: We continue ixL Math homework; students should complete P5, P8 and P13 by next Tuesday.  We continue our study of geometry, with a test on Unit One later next week.

Spelling: We are studying Unit Three, “long and short i” words, for the next two weeks and will have a test on these words NEXT Friday. Students will work on the unit pages in their Spelling books, and these pages are to be done by next Friday.  We are also writing sentences using each of the words (20 sentences) and these will be due next Friday as well.

Grammar: We are learning about simple subjects and predicates.

Writing Workshop: We have been brainstorming ideas in preparation for writing a realistic fiction and planning possible stories.

Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit Two words; the test will be next Friday.

Reading:  Today your child received the second Fluency homework, which will be due next Tuesday.  I will attach a copy of the Fluency Homework in my work packet email tomorrow.   They also have a new Reading Log (4 nights of reading is required, 5 nights would be great!), which will also be due next Tuesday.  I will attach a copy of the NEW reading log form in my email to you tomorrow.  Click here to access the form.  reading log #2 In reading groups we continue reading our literature selections.

Social Studies: We have begun using our California Studies Weekly newspaper; we are learning unique facts about California as an introduction to this program.  We will have our first quiz next week.

Science: We continue learning about living and nonliving components of ecosystems.

Thanking you for your support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
