For those unable to attend last week’s meeting, our continuing effort to work with The Common Core State Standards was the main topic. Our faculty strongly believes the effort to work with these rigorous standards will show throughout the students’ lives. We see the short term challenges these standards create, but recognize the long-term benefits as worthwhile. New Math textbooks in kindergarten-sixth grade, Accelerated Math Live use in middle school, and the schoolwide inclusion of more informational content & writing rubrics in English/Language Arts make a challenging school day. We encourage patience and determination for all!

If you would like to see The Common Core State Standards, please go to the link at the top right of the school website.

Since 2009, middle school students received Honors for keeping an 85%-92% average or Honors with Distinction for keeping a 93% or above average in all academic subjects. The change to The Common Core, an interest in beginning to shift to a standards-based report card, and a philosophical difference with the concept of an honor roll for students younger than high school age brings the process to an end at Sacred Heart School.
