Hello Second Grade Families,
Thank you to all who came out for the School Fair last week. Our artists were very proud of all the work we’ve done! Individual portfolios will sent home in the coming weeks.
In class this week, we will working on the following…
Math: The students will continue with Unit 6, taking time in groups this week to work toward greater automaticity in our addition and subtraction facts. The class will also practice solving word problems with a comparison diagram (“part/part/difference”). For IXL math homework this week, please complete the following skills…
F.12 Subtraction word problems
G.14 Add three numbers ~ up to 2 digits each
R.7 Which bar graph is correct
Reader’s Workshop: We continue with our unit on multi-syllabic words, this week turning our attention to double consonants and challenging words with the consonant le. The students will focus on working carefully, slowly and methodically when encountering tough words.
Word Work: With several groups reaching a periodic cumulative Spell Check, we will be changing our current configuration in the coming weeks so that everyone is right where they need to be. For now, our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.
Writer’s Workshop: The class is doing an outstanding job crafting our informational books! This week we will put our selves in the position of our readers as we consider what questions a reader might have as well how pictures can aid in our teaching.
Science: Time for a new unit! This week we will begin our “Material Magic” unit with a study of why we wear clothing. We will learn about properties of clothing as we compare and contrast one fabric to another.
Religion: This week is all about Lent. We will be attending mass on Ash Wednesday. All are welcome and encouraged to join us.
Have a great week!
