A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

READING:  We are learning to stop, reread, and answer questions when books get tricky. We are also learning to use writing to help sort out confusing parts. For example, we use Post-it notes to keep track of characters by describing their personalities, especially when our characters are similar.

PHONICS: We are learning how to add inflected endings to words with long vowels. We will be paying careful attention to words with silent E knowing when to drop the E before adding -ing, -er, and -ed.

SPELLING: Your child’s sort can be found in their planner. Spelling tests will be on Friday, March 26.

MATH: We are learning about measuring and estimating weight. We are also learning how to measure length to the nearest centimeter and nearest inch. We are using the numerical data from the measurements to find the middle value (median).

RELIGION: In Chapter 20, we learn that through the words of the priest, the Eucharistic Prayer, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. We also learn that the Mass is Jesus’ perfect sacrifice to the Father.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: We are writing about small moments in our lives that touch our hearts and our minds. We are learning to brainstorm ideas for small moments writing.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will continue working on the map of our classroom.
