It’s hard to believe we only have a few weeks left! Here’s what we are working on in second grade:

HOMEWORK

Math IXL Skills: V.3 and V.4

Language Arts Skill: JJ.1

Fluency Wk 28 – This should be completed over the course of 4 days.

Reading Log Wk 28 – Please read a minimum of 20 minutes daily with the goal of having read 100 or more minutes for the week. Students should try challenging themselves to read 25 minutes daily when possible.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

READING:  We continue using the different reading strategies we have learned throughout the year as we read longer, more complex books. Our focus is on improving fluency and comprehension (beyond what is written in the text).

PHONICS: We continue learning how to make compound words using common compound words.

SPELLING: Spelling tests will be on Friday, May 21.

MATH: As we continue our unit on measurement, we are learning about perimeter (adding the outside measurements of an object), area (the amount of surface inside a shape), capacity (the amount a container can hold), and weight (how heavy something is). We are also learning equivalent measures of capacity and weight.

RELIGION: We are finishing Chapter 25 as we continue learning how the Church celebrates God’s love. We will take the Unit 5 test on Monday which focuses on the Church Body, Mary as the Mother of the Church, and the Church’s celebration of God’s love.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: We are getting close to publishing our nonfiction books. We are currently editing our books by rereading what we have written and adding, changing, or deleting details. We are making certain that our nonfiction books contain information that is informative and helps teach about our topics.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We continue learning about economics with our focus on how limits on resources affect production and consumption.

SCIENCE: This week in Mystery Science we will practice thinking like gardeners as we learn where plants grow best.
